Kenya Travel Advice

Health & Vaccinations:
Recommended vaccines include Hepatitis A and Yellow Fever. Malaria risk is low but taking preventive medication and using mosquito repellent at night is advised. Lodges provide mosquito nets. Always check with your doctor before traveling.

Visa / eTA:
You need to apply online for an eTA before arrival. It costs about $34 and is valid for 3 months. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your trip.

Language & Culture:
Swahili and English are official languages. Kenyans are friendly and welcoming. Basic greetings include:

  • Habari? – Nzuri

  • Mambo? – Poa

  • Jambo – Jambo

Safety:
Kenya is safe, especially with guided tours. Avoid walking alone at night and don’t wear flashy jewelry. Use a driver after dark.

Currency:
Kenyan Shilling (KES) is official; US dollars accepted in many places. Credit cards are widely accepted but carry some cash.

Fun Fact:
Kenyan Swahili time starts counting at 6 am (saa moja), so 7 am is 1 o’clock, 1 pm is 7 o’clock.
